Pharmaceutical Uses

Fumaric acid is used as an effervescent agent and lubricant in tablet compositions. 

There are a large numbers of fumaric acid derivations that comprise therapeutic applications like those in iron, calcium and magnesium fumarates.

These are mainly used to supply the body with those ions given that fumarates are excellent vehicles for that purpose. They do not have undesirable taste nor do they irritate the digestive system.
